Saving Money With Web Hosting Extras

Wednesday, June 15th, 2011

The popularity of internet marketing is constantly increasing. Businesses from all over the world are creating professional websites and blogs to gain free exposure and keep their clients up to date. Personal blogs are also becoming popular because they give people a chance to express themselves and make some extra money. Because of these reasons demand for professional web hosting services has increased tremendously in recent years. New companies have entered this business and the severity of competition is increasing with each passing day.

Offering freebies is a tried and tested way of attracting clientele. In the world of web hosting, firms are offering free domains, ad credits and site building applications to their customers. If you are a webmaster then these freebies can help you a lot. However, such offers are also responsible for trapping unsuspecting newbies. While choosing a hosting solution for your site, quality should be your first preference. Free stuff is good but it’s not a substitute for your site’s success. Following are the three main things that you can expect from your hosting company:

Free Domain:

Usually a .com domain costs around $10 but many hosting companies give away a free one to each customer. Many people get too excited about having their own website and choose a domain without proper consideration. This is a mistake that you must avoid at all costs. In the future if you plan to move your site to your own server then you can still keep the domain name. However you will have to ask your host to transfer it to your account.

Free Services:

Every webmaster knows how crucial search engine optimization is. Getting quality organic traffic is almost impossible if you don’t pay attention to all the on-page and off-page SEO techniques. Fortunately many hosting companies are ready to do the job for free. However, you must keep in mind that such services are not very comprehensive. They might get you indexed in search engines but don’t expect a good position on search engine result pages.

Ad Credits:

It doesn’t matter if you are developing an online store or a tech blog, advertising on big sites like Google and Facebook always helps. Normally advertising on such sites is very costly but with the right web hosting package you can do it for free. Free advertising credits are pretty common in the web hosting world.

If you want to save money on web hosting then make sure you choose a company that offers freebies. Also, try to make full use of the extras by following the tips given in this article.

Should You Build A Home Server for Hosting Your Website?

Sunday, June 5th, 2011

There are thousands of commercial websites on the internet and the number is consistently increasing. Every webmaster wants to earn profits from his websites but the competition is so severe that only a handful of people actually succeed in their online business ventures. If you want to earn a living through your site then you must take each and every details into consideration. Even a small mistake can ruin everything once and for all. While starting your website there are certain things that can make a lot of difference. Web hosting is one of those things.

People who don’t know the importance of web hosting either choose an incompetent hosting company or put their sites on a homemade server. Both this mistakes can render your business unprofitable. People build their own servers because they think that this strategy is more cost-effective than paying fees to a proper hosting company. What they fail to realize is that there are many serious disadvantages of home made servers.

Here are a few reasons why you shouldn’t be hosting your sites on a home server:

- These days hosting plans are extremely cheap and putting your site on a flimsy homemade server can not save you any considerable amount of money. A typical hosting plan can be purchased for as low as $2/month. More powerful plans cost considerably more but they also come with amazing features.

- Hosting companies have highly skilled technicians who can solve any problem in a matter of minutes. On the other hand, individual webmasters often lack the expertise required to solve technical problems. As a result sites hosted on a home server go down very frequently.

- Lastly, home servers are very insecure. No matter how many firewalls or antivirus apps you install on your machine, hackers and malware will still find and exploit loopholes in your system. Also, professional security software comes at a huge price and only big hosting companies can afford it. This is another important reason why you shouldn’t build your own server.

Building a home server is an expensive and risky venture that you should avoid at all costs. With hundreds of cheap companies in the market there is absolutely no reason why you should go through the trouble.

How Exactly Does a Server Work?

Saturday, April 30th, 2011

A main computer which provides information to other computers, also referred to as clients, is a server. These client computers are able to access the main computer (server) using a Wide Area Network (WAN) such as the web or a more local network which is referred to as a Local Area Network (LAN). This type of network is more common in offices, but can be set up in homes.

Servers come in different forms such as mail, file and web servers. A mail server for example will send and receive emails and store email accounts. If you send a message to a client or family member, your message will be sent using a server using Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP)

Any computer is able to become a server. All it will require to do so is the necessary software. I will also require a good amount of Random Access Memory (RAM) for handling heavy traffic periods. High processing power levels are not necessary however. Another benefit is a fast hard drive to speed up data transfers.

When you are in a cafe, on public transport, at the office, or home, and you access a web page that appears on either you mobile or computer screen, it is possible due to a web server.

When you visit a website, you will get there through clicking a link or entering the URL (Uniform Resource Locator) into the address bar in the browser. You and many others around the world will be able to view the exact same web page, how is this a possibility?

For example, let us assume that you want to view mycomputer.com. You can do this by either clicking on a link or typing the URL into your web browser. Through your Internet connection, your browser establishes a connection to the server that is storing (or hosting) the mycomputer.com files. It does this by converting the domain name into what is called an IP address (a unique number that every computer using the Internet is assigned). This is done through DNS (a domain name server) which then locates the server that has that IP address associated with it and displays the relevant information on your screen.

In simple terms, after you type in the website address and press the enter key, imagine your computer knocking on the door of the particular server which looks after the website you are trying to access. Once the server answers and opens the door, your browser will then ask the server if the website you are seeking is home.

The server then delivers the data you requested, by using HTTP, back to your browser which converts the data into the page you see on your computer screen. The same process happens with every computer that wants to view the same page at the same time.

An error message will occur if the website you are trying to access is not available on that server, or has been deleted.

Choosing the Right Hosting Package

Sunday, April 24th, 2011

Not all companies have the same options or checkout procedure but they do have some things in common: Domain Name. You are asked for the domain name. If you don’t have already registered one, you can usually get one for free from the host if you sign up for a minimum period of time. With some web hosts, free means “as long as you stay with them”, and they might charge you extra for the domain name if you decide to move. We recommend that you register your own domain name with an ICANN accredited registrars like GoDaddy.com . Buying a hosting package isn’t different from buying something on the Internet, so if you ever bought anything online, you should be fine. You need to create an account, to provide some personal information, select the options and pay. There are a few aspects worth mentioning regarding the options you select.

Billing Cycle. Usually the advertised price is for a 12 or 24 months contract. So, if you’re considering signing for a shorter period of time, expect the monthly rate to be higher. But unless you’re short on cash, a 24 months contract shouldn’t be too expensive. This way you’ll get the best price per month.

Additional features. As we discussed in What to look for, when choosing a web host, some of the features are not standard. The most common choices that you will have to make include choosing between having and not having dedicated IP and choosing or not non-standard technologies like ASP, JSP. Additional software packages are usually offered for free, but some of them are not. Some of them are offered only with a 24 months hosting plan, so if you need them, choose the right billing cycle.

You have found a couple of web hosts and each has one or two packages that fit your hosting budget. We will analyze a few real-life possible situations. If your site is going to be developed by others, it’s a good thing to ask them about the web technologies they will use to develop and run the website. If you have determined your needs, choosing the right hosting package is just a matter of selecting the features needed to fulfill those needs.

Based on this kind of information, the first thing you should consider is choosing the operating system of the web server: either Linux hosting servers or Windows hosting servers. After that, make sure the hosting package has the features needed. If your site is developed using JSP (Java Servlet Pages), make sure your web host offers this feature, because JSP pages need a different kind of web server, which is not always offered as a standard feature.

Why You Must Go For A Colo Service To Host Your Website

Thursday, April 14th, 2011

It is a fact that having an IT department in a company can be very expensive for those small scale businesses. But, it would be an advantage for a company to have an IT Department in their company since it is one of the factors that will determine the success of a business especially today that there is a growing competition. The development of the site of the company will be handled by the IT department which makes their role very important. And as we all know, a company’s site is vital for advertising and extended services online. With the technology that we have now, there are now ways that you can have the online marketing in a cheaper alternative. One commendable way to achieve this goal is with the use of colocation.

The main idea about co-location is to place your server machine to a certain entity rack and thus sharing whatever power their bandwidth has as your own. This can surely be an expensive way of managing your server machine, but you will surely enjoy all the benefits that this would bring your company. The only thing that you need to do is place your device in the place that you want in the colocation provider. It will now depend in you if you want to rent the server or own it. It will be very easy for you to do things once the installation will be finished where you will now have the IP address of your device which would mean that business will be available in no time. The service that they can provide you would be available as soon as you can receive a confirmation that it’s ready to use. The only difference is that you own the hardware.

Colocation can be the best option that you can take considering that a good internet connection with a high bandwidth can be very costly. Even a dedicated and limited DSL line can cost you a lot. Saving some cash in terms of internet connection fees can be achieved with the use of colocation because given the same price compared to DLS lines, you can have a greater connection. You should be well aware that having a greater bandwidth will only mean a better performance for your site.

The amount of money that you can save is even greater if you are currently accessing the internet through an outdated technology. Given that your server is hardware, there are some possibilities that it can be damaged either naturally or through accidents, however colocation is the best way to avoid this to happen. Optimum security cannot be possible in a simple office and this might only lead to the stoppage of the servers’ services. On the other hand, a colocation provider will make it certain that your server will be safely intact and it can’t be harmed by any outside force.

One of the best things about UK colocation data centres is that the company owns the server hardware and software. The best thing about this fact is that of you want to upgrade the performance of your network, upgrading your hardware will be very easy. Colo and colocation services will handle this job for you. You will not be in so much hustle because you are only required to provide them with the upgraded parts and they will gladly install them for you. Adding some memory or improving the processing power of the server will be very easy, and you do not need for a provider to do so. This is also true with regards to software. With colocation, the company can use any software that they want which will give them the freedom to use the application that is effective for their system. The only thing that they should do is to purchase and install the software.

What Are Data Centres Made Up Of?

Saturday, April 9th, 2011

Data centres are an important part of any company or organization today. They offer a central storage and networking place for the company where data and information can be managed from centrally. So this brings us to the question, what are data centres meant for?

First of all they are meant for provision of storage space. To provide this they have high capacity storage servers which store all the data. The reason for storing all of it in one place is that it makes management easy. It is also easy to produce performance, financial and personnel reports when all the data is in one place. It is also secure when in one place than when scattered in different computers all over the company.

It also has power backup systems. These include things like heavy duty generators, uninterrupted power supplies and other backup systems. This ensures that the center works all the time despite things like power blackouts because if the whole system goes down it means that the whole company will come to a halt since everything depends on the system to operate.

Artificial environment controllers are also another very essential part of the center. They include fans, air conditioners, air purifiers and oxidizers. These are very important because the computer systems produce so much heat when operating which if not checked can damage them. The fans and water coolants cool down the system while the air conditioners control the surrounding temperatures and the oxidizers ensure that there is enough oxygen in the room. This ensures that the personnel who work in the center are comfortable while working.

There is also application software that is used to operate the company. It is controlled here and stores all its data and information in the vast storage facilities offered. The whole computer system can be monitored and managed from this central point. It monitors activities of the users in the system to prevent malicious activities and keeps a log of all these activities for future reference.

The center is also installed with a hi-tech security system. This ensures that the system is not accessed by unauthorized people. It does this by encrypting sensitive information and by user management. It sets user and password policies that govern what the different types of users can access and ensures that the users use complex password that cannot be easily cracked.

The center requires a lot of power to operate and cannot afford to go off at any time therefore the need for there to be power backup systems. The use of so much power leads to production of so much heat. So the center needs to be properly air conditioned to ensure that the heat does not destroy the whole system.

This makes maintenance easy therefore it can be done frequently to ensure that all the computers are up to date. So that gives us the answer to the question, what is data centre meant for?

Colocation Hosting Basics

Sunday, March 6th, 2011

Today, every business needs a reliable web hosting company in order to stay competitive. Colocation is a hosting solution for businesses who want all of the features of a large IT enterprise but without the high costs. With Colocation hosting, a business can put their physical sever machine in a datacenter in another person’s rack and use their bandwidth as their own. The machine is taken or sent to the colocation provider and installed in the provider’s rack, or a server machine is rented from the colocation provider. The hosting company provides the power, IP, and bandwidth. Once a server is deployed, the business can access their website on a hosting provider.

With colocation hosting, the customer pays for the physical space that their server takes up in the data center facility. As well, customers select the hardware configuration and the software that will be installed on the server. The hosting company maintains internet connectivity and security of the database facility such as air-conditioning, uninterrupted power supplies, fire controls, and physical security protection.

Though paravirtualization technology, server infrastructure that includes the database is duplicated over multiple virtual servers allowing for efficient data backup if one server fails. Databases can be upgraded individually on a node without affecting the other nodes which eliminates server downtime. As well, if one node on the server degrades, the data can instantly migrate to another node preventing loss of data while maintaining high availability.

There are many benefits to using colocation hosting such as: dynamic scalability, flexible resource allocation, high performance, and plenty of available bandwidth for instances of increased traffic flow. As well, this method of hosting provides optimum flexibility as the business can choose their preferred hardware configuration and software that will be installed. Colocation facilities are designed to provide the best and most secure environment to host business servers. Risk mitigation and disaster recovery are key features of state-of-the-art datacenters as they offer environmental controls, physical security, generator backup, redundant power, and a completely redundant high capacity network. Client’s data remains safe and secure.

Colocation hosting is a cost-efficient method of hosting a website. Customers pay for only the amount of space they require. Full Cabinet cloud Colocation is ideal for businesses needing the datacenter space to accommodate multiple servers. As well, the customer will have the benefit of 24/7/365 physical access. Many colocation hosting providers offer a service where they will manage and maintain a client’s server which is an effective solution if the company does not have the IT team to manage and maintain the server.

Colocation hosting is the perfect solution for a company that is seeking to develop an effective online presence but do not want to manage all of the network tasks. Colocation is an efficient IT enterprise investment as it allows businesses to safely host their servers and equipment as well as helping business improve service levels, reduce capital costs, and focus on core business operations. For businesses of all sizes, Colocation Hosting is one type of hosting that is definitely worth considering.

Crucial Things You Should Know About Reseller Hosting

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

On the internet, web hosts are the most crucial things to consider as they are the machines that’ll serve any websites they’re hosting. In layman’s term, a web host is basically a computer system connected to the World wide web where the files for certain websites are stored and are ready to be served to users.

Meanwhile, reseller host has proved itself successful specially in fulfilling the dreams of small-time webmasters; these are the ones who own websites for information and small company purposes. Reseller hosting, as what the name denotes, can let someone who is willing to pay use one’s allotted space in some servers. Obviously, bandwidth can never be taken out when hosting is the topic.

Generally, resellers purchase or pay monthly dues for dedicated server from a company which offers hosting. In accordance with this, the reseller account gets the ability to subdivide the allotted space and sell them to those who are looking for cheaper hosting.

When someone purchases a hosting account, it usually goes with unlimited disk space and bandwidth. However, resellers have the right to decrease the allotted space and set appropriate price for a certain space and bandwidth.

The fact of the matter is, not many companies offer dedicated server hosting but there are a lot of resellers who market their hosting business. That is why, when you are looking for a good and reliable web host, you might consider paying for the reseller hosting account. This will help you in the future mainly if you are preparing to set up your own hosting system over the Internet. Moreover, there are also others who offer hosting for free just to acquire traffic and promote their own paid hosting plans. Offering some free stuff really attracts lots of visitors to the site.

If you want to enter into an online business as one of the best reseller hosting company then you need an established hosting company which offers cheap reseller hosting, for which I recommend AllReseller.com
